About Me

I love food. I love eating food. I love making food. I love trying new food. I love talking about food. A lot of people ask me how I learned to cook and I don't really have an answer...I just make it.   It's something that's in my blood, starting with my Italian roots.  My mom's a food service teacher.  My sister and my brother both went to culinary school. I guess it just runs in the family.  My husband's a lucky man.

Sometimes I use recipes, sometimes I don't.  When I cook, I usually just look at what I have on hand and make something.  I don't believe you should have to go on a scavenger hunt in a grocery store to find that one unique ingredient to create a gourmet meal, only to never use it again.  My food is for the average person who lives on a budget and wants to eat healthy once in while, or just eat really good stuff that's not so difficult to make.

Baking on the other hand is an entirely different story and has a completely different set of rules..of which I don't like. However, FOLLOW THE RECIPE when it comes to baking because it is a science. But the more you bake the better you get and the more confident and successful you will be in changing recipes to really make them your own.

Cupcakes are a true passion of mine. I bake them often and eat them rarely.  I like to put good flavors together without adding too much fake stuff....No food coloring. No shortening. No box mixes. No frills. Banana Fluffernutter, Peanut Butter Oreo and Cherry Almond, I could stuff my face full.

Food tastes the best when it made from scratch.  I try to eat as clean as I can afford to. I don't really use many prepared items that come in boxes or packages.  I really like to know exactly what I am putting in my body so if I can't pronounce it, then I'd rather not eat it. I mostly stay away from manufactured foods and sauces you find on a grocery store shelf... although nothing can ever replace a can o' spaghettios

I like to make lots of things myself.  I have a garden. Soon, we hope to add chickens so I can have fresh eggs on  daily basis. I like to sew and hope to have some DIY stuff to share. I like to get my hands dirty. I like things with character that are unique. There's nothing more rewarding than knowing you made something awesome by simply making do with what you have.

So the name BohoBaker comes from my often being described as "boho" or "bohemian," as we all know means 1) a native or inhabitant of Bohemia; 2) a lesbian's best friend; and 3) a person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices.  I like to think I can relate more to the latter, unfortunately and surprisingly I don't have any lesbian friends and I'm definitely not from Bohemia. I don't like rules and I like to question just about everything. Ironic to baking, I believe there's always more than one way of doing things. My intentions for this blog is share MY way of going through life as simply and naturally as I can....with a hell of a lot of baking! :)
